Weekend rides

Saturday was cold!  Of course did I put on a long sleeve shirt?  no.  David and I rode 14 miles...the longest I've road before!  It was great but I made a bee line to the hot bath tub when I got home.  Today when we went out I found a long sleeve shirt and a jacket to wear.  When you live in South Texas its hard to be outside when it gets below 55 outside!  hahaha
The best thing about riding a bike is being able to "hear" and "smell" the outdoors.  Besides the diesel of the trucks when we are on the busy streets...I love to smell the smoke from the fire places, people grilling (yum) and you can actually smell the laundry drying as you pass some houses.  Today I got in 11.8 miles.  Little sore on the ride but I kept going.  It was too cold to stop!  hahaha  I'm leaving for South Dakota this coming Friday so won't be able to ride while I'm gone.  Maybe I can get in a short ride this week before I leave....

Back to Back days

When I decided to do this I wanted to have a couple of friends with me on this journey.  So, I asked my neighbor, Denise, who I've known now for over 6 years.  She is a few years younger than me and has run the Houston Marathon a couple of times.  Then I asked my boss - now she on the other hand is a whole lot younger than me and so much more in shape!  She also lives in the neighborhood.  This way no excuse - we just meet at the front and off we go.  David is our coach and has planned out the routes we take and makes me (at least) accountable.  So after our 10 mile ride yesterday we had this brilliant idea to leave our bikes at school and go on a ride after hours.  Great idea!  Uh....we did 6.7 miles with a head wind and my thighs were screaming!  We both decided that it will take us at least a "million years" to complete the MS150!  Can you tell I teach elementary students?

Sunday ride

Today was a beautiful day here in Texas for a bike ride.  This kind of weather doesn't come around very often either!  One of my riding buddies and I were able to ride 10 miles...the most I've rode since getting my new bike on my birthday!  David has been after me to start my blog but I have been too busy to "just do it"!  One of my goals before I turn 50 is to ride in the MS150 from Houston to Austin.  So, for my birthday the boys all surprised me with a beautiful baby blue Scott!  To top it off we had the handle bars taped in bright pink so now it looks like me.  I have asked a couple of friends of mine to join me in this adventure and so far they have been pretty supportive.  David of course in my biggest supporter by helping me get out there and get used to riding on the streets.  Gee whiz....why do the cars have to get sooo close to you when you're riding?  I have a new appreciation for cyclist.  After signing up for the MS150 I found out its actually 183 miles!  Why do they call it the MS150 then?

Nic made Eagle and here's the slide show from his Court of Honor ceremony. We're so proud of him!
